WYTON: Leonard Wesley Wyton, beloved husband of Ena, father of Allan and Robert, grandfather of Grant and Derek, passed away January 22, 2000 in Carberry, Manitoba. Len was born on the family farm at N1/2 31-9-17, R.M. of Cornwallis on December 12, 1929. He attended Lawrence School, travelling six miles on horseback. He farmed with two of his brothers until 1956 when he moved to Brandon to work at Western Motors, where many a good friendship were made over the next thirteen years. During these years, he met and married, on July 17, 1957, Ena Nicol to whom he remained faithful for 44 years. In 1968, he realized his dream of owning and operating his own service station/repair shop with the purchase of his shop in Douglas, known as Len's Service, and moved his family to live there. He and Ena operated this business until Ena's health failed, requiring her to retire to Carberry Personal Care Home. Many good times were enjoyed absorbing the heat and stories around a hot stove here and later at the Douglas General Store/Coffee Shop with his best friends and long time customers. Len was a longtime member of Fenwick Lodge #158 A.F.& A.M. and the Shriners. In later years he enjoyed many hours visiting with fellow members of the Pioneer Tractor Club of Brandon through which he was allowed to remain true to his farming roots. Len's final project in life was the restoration of a Macormick W-4 antique tractor to full completion. Len enjoyed many family vacations spent fishing in Manitoba or to visit relatives across Canada from Ottawa to White Rock, B.C. Many trips were spent in awe of the Rocky Mountains, which he travelled through extensively. Len always appreciated nature and long walks or drives through his home area and was always willing to take a friend along to tell the stories about growing up around the Waggle Springs/Curries Landing area. Some of his favorite times were spent deer, goose or moose hunting. In later times, the majority of his summers were spent golfing with his favorite buddies in the senior league at Glen Lea or wherever the tournaments were being held. Len was also active in the Douglas community clubs, enjoying many bonspiels at the rink or dances at the hall. He was always found wherer people gathered. Len is survived by his wife Ena of the Carberry Personal Care Home; his two sons and best friends: Allan of Douglas, Rob and grandsons Grant and Derek of Brandon; and his brother Harvey (Julia) also of Brandon. He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Ethel; brothers: Thomas, William, Melvin, Clarence, and Walter "Mike"; sisters Emily and Mabel Jackson. A celebration of Len's life was held on January 26, 2000 at Memories Chapel in Brandon with Rev. Barb Jardine officiating. Masonic Rites were observed. Interment followed at Chater Cemetery, after passing Len's favorite golf course. Active pallbearers were Gary Demkey, Jack Gullet, Garth Haubrick, Tom Hawitt, Glen Kissock and Robert Mitchell.
