Leonard H. Tait of Rivers, passed away suddenly on October 25, 2000 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Len was born May 21, 1929 in Boissevain, son of Harold and Geraldine Tait. He attended school as a boy in the Boissevain area. Len married Marjorie Greaves on August 1, 1951 and they farmed in Ninga for 5 years. They then moved to Rivers, where he worked many years at the Rivers Elementary School as a custodian. Len was the Maintenance Supervisor at the Riverdale Hospital for 25 years until his retirement. Len was involved in many organizations including CUPE, the Red Cross, Handi-van, Rivers United Church, TOPS, and also served as a Cub leader. His interests included family, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, craft sales, collecting antiques, flea marketing, attending auction sales and collecting salt and pepper shakers. He was also an avid sports fan of his children and grandchildren. One of Leonard's greatest pleasures in life was children; whether they were his own or the ones in school or other organizations Len is survived by: his wife of 49 years, Marjorie; his children, Valerie (Alvin), Linda, Jim (Colleen), Glen (Marie), Lawrence, Joan (Fred), Brian, Ken (Shawna). There are 15 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; his two sisters, Thelma and Lil (Ed); sister-in-law, Audrey; brother-in-law, Clair; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Leonard was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Geraldine Tait; father and mother-in-law, Harry and Eva Greaves; brothers-in-law, Stu and Pat. The funeral ceremony was held at the Rivers United Church on Saturday, October 28, 2000. The Rev. Boyd Drake officiated. Interment followed in the Rivers cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Len to the Rivers Handivan, the Riverdale Hospital Memorial Fund or to the Rivers United Church.
