Obituary

Leonard MacDonald, more affectionately known as Lenny - and to many on the ball field as "3-pack," "Big Mac," or "Half Pack" - aged 63, passed away on Friday, July 11th, 2025, with his loving family by his side, following a courageous nine-year battle with dementia.

Born in Neils Harbour, Nova Scotia, on April 19th, 1962, Lenny was proud of where he came from and carried the spirit of Cape Breton with him wherever he went. The oldest of six brothers, he naturally stepped into the role of protector and mentor, always looking out for them with strength and humor.

Lenny spent much of his life in Manitoba, where he worked for over 30 years as an instrumentation technician and later a supervisor for Centra Gas and Manitoba Hydro. A self-taught fixer of all things, he had a natural talent for figuring things out—there wasn't much he couldn't build. In his later years, Lenny made the move to Prince Edward Island, where he embraced a quieter life by the ocean and devoted himself to his children's sports teams—never missing a game or practice and always cheering them on with a father's love.

He lived life outdoors. Whether it was fishing off the cliffs in Meat Cove, exploring the woods, hiking new trails, or simply chopping wood. He loved the thrill of riding dirt bikes and the simple joy of being active, whether through sports or hard work. Lenny didn't just play sports - he lived them. He once played on four baseball teams at once and was a lifelong competitor (just try beating him at cribbage, Risk, or horseshoes—it didn't happen).

He had a natural gift for making people laugh. The funniest guy in any room, he had a way of lifting spirits and cracking everyone up with his stories, quick wit, and contagious energy. Lenny was the guy everyone turned to - the helper, the coach, the friend. He coached his children through many years of hockey, ringette, and softball and became a mentor to countless others along the way.

Lenny is survived by his loving wife Joanne of 32 years; his children Ryleigh (Dustin), Caeleigh, and Breton (Selina), as well as his cherished grandpups, Hazel and Bentley. He is also survived by his mother, Veronica (Richard), and his brothers, Sheldon (Paula), Carl (Madeline), Clayton (Ina), Perry (Maren), and Dave (Leah). His memory lives on through his family, friends, teammates, and the many lives he touched with his big heart and even bigger personality. Among Lenny's many friendships, one stood out—his special bond with Scooby (Brad). Their unwavering loyalty and brotherly connection brought Lenny endless joy, and he shared with his family endless stories of their adventures together.

The MacDonald family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Dinsdale Personal Care Home for the kindness and compassion they showed Lenny during the past three years.

A Celebration of Lenny's Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of his dedication to sports, donations can be made to the Ashley Neufeld Softball Complex, PO Box 50011, Brandon, MB R7A 7E4.

In true Lenny fashion, his words say it best: "Keep your eye on the ball and your stick on the ice." His advice, like his love, will live on forever.

Until we meet again.
