SILLIKER: The death of Leola Emma Silliker of Brandon, occurred at her residence Rideau Park Personal Care Home on Monday, August 1, 2005. Leola was born in St. Rose du Lac, the daughter of Gilbert and Pearle Demeria. Leola started her schooling in the St. Rose area, but her mother became ill, she moved to Brandon with her sister Irene and continued her schooling until the age of sixteen. She worked at the Box Brother's Hardware Store on 10th Street and in 1959, married Richard Silliker, who would be the love of her life for thirty- nine years. They worked at the North Hill Inn together and raised four children; Wendy Silliker (fiancT Larry Jackson), Sherry (Derek) Dolski, Garry (Val) Silliker, and Todd Silliker (special friend, Donna). There are two grandchildren, Sue Ann Goos (Darren) and Richard Goos (Lindsay); and one great grandchild, Emily, Richard's daughter. There were seven children in Leola's family, brothers, Harold and Joe and sister, Florence who predeceased Leola; brother, Mel (Claudia) of Brandon; sisters, Mary of Toronto, ON and Irene (John) of Alberta. Early in their family life Leola and Richard became foster parents. They later worked for the Brandon Mental Health Centre, taking adult clients into their home for 20 years. Once the children had grown up, Leola and Richard enjoyed winters in Arizona until 1998, the year that Richard passed away. She enjoyed going to different places and in later years worked for Care Free Getaways. Through this work, she traveled on many enjoyable bus tours. On November 14, 2004, Leola moved to Rideau Personal Care Home. She made two special friends there, Jim Lee and Kay Phair, both very special people and a great support for Leola. The Ceremony to Celebrate Leola's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Thursday, August 4, 2005. Captain B.J. Loader and Greg Dinsdale officiated. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Leola to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Westman Region, B727-10th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4G7.
