HAY: Lenard (Len) Charles Hay passed away at his residence in Rapid City, MB on Tuesday, April 22, 2003. Len was born in Gull Lake, SK on August 20, 1948 and received his education there. He was on the winning 1965 Championship Football Team. He then worked as a journeyman carpenter in Lethbridge, AB for 22 years. In 1984, he moved to Rapid City, MB. He was employed with Manitoba Highways and later as a trades helper at Brandon Correctional Institute. Len was a volunteer firefighter and an associate Legion member. He very proudly helped coach his sons' hockey teams including the "Dream Team". Len was an avid golfer and enjoyed camping and fishing with his boys. He enjoyed the search for arrowheads. Len and Lyla's very special interest was searching for wild flowers, which they did on Easter Sunday. They enjoyed tending the garden that Josh and Orrie's great grandfather Basler started. Their best times were those spent with their families and grandchildren. He is survived by his partner Lyla, his children Anna and family, Chris, Josh and Orrie; Lyla's children Darrin (Karen), Danny (Tracy), Dallas and grandchildren Jenny and Maddie; Len's sister Debbie Kimber (Bryan) of Tompkins, SK who he called his "titter" when a child, has enjoyed many great times with her great brother Lennie and will miss him dearly. He is also survived by his nephew Trampus and niece Lesley Stewart (Rob) and their children Jade and Dayton; Uncle Jim, Aunt Velma and Aunt Haddie and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Margaret Hay of Gull Lake, SK. The funeral service was held at the Rapid City United Church on Saturday, April 26, 2003. Rev. Boyd Drake and Mernard Mullins, Roman Catholic Chaplin of the Brandon Correctional Institute, officiated. Pallbearers were Terry Busse, Bill Hay, Dick Hay, Willie Kolesar, Darcy Robins and Trent Hedley. The honorary pallbearer was Eric Henke. Interment took place at the Rapid City Cemetery. Len will be sadly missed by his soul mate and partner, Lyla. Len and Lyla felt they were truly blessed in their relationship, sharing a love that comes once in a lifetime, true and faithful to each other. They found in each other the answer for love and happiness. Len, we will all miss your great sense of humor, your wonderful laughter and your dedication to those who love you.
