It is with heavy hearts the family announces the peaceful passing of our loving mother and G-Ma, Lena Marcischuk, on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the Assiniboine Center in Brandon at the age of 93 years.

Lena was predeceased by her husband, Marvin, parents Anna and Sam Ewashko, sisters Zanny Ogibowski and Ollie Lewandoski. Remaining to forever cherish Lena’s memory are her daughters Donna Sparks (Steve) and Marcia McMaster (Gord); grandchildren Brandyn (Ive), Kryssy (Liam), Nash, Danika, and great grandson Arlo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family including those at Rotary Villa.

Lena was born and grew up on the family farmstead near Rackham, MB. After completing grade 9, she moved to Winnipeg and worked at the Nutty Club Candy Factory for a few years. After marrying Marvin in 1957 they farmed in the Sandy Lake area. Shortly after Donna was born, the family moved to Toronto. After a brief stay, they returned to Manitoba and bought their farm in the Cadurcis area where Marcia was born. Many memories were made here as well as lifelong friends.

In 1979, they decided to leave the farm and moved to Brandon where Lena excelled at baking, cooking and volunteering at Green Acres school. She never missed any of Marcia’s games or school functions. Her dedication continued by attending her grandchildren’s activities until her mobility made it too difficult.

In 2002, mom and dad upgraded from the camper to the family cottage near Clear Lake where numerous games of cards and family gatherings were enjoyed by all. This is where her famous saying “many hands make work lighter” was engraved in each and every one of us. And where Lena earned the title “Card Shark”.

A special thank you to the staff at both the Brandon Hospital and the Assiniboine Center for the exceptional care she received during her short stay.

A small private celebration of Lena’s amazing life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.

We love you G-Ma…
