Obituary

Lawrence (“Law”) Leslie Champagne February 26, 1980 – March 5, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Lawrence Leslie Champagne, of Brandon, Manitoba, on March 5, 2026, at the age of 46.

Law will be lovingly remembered by his wife Nikki, and her sons Ethan and Hunter; his father Richard Champagne (Yvonne); his mother Michele Donald; and his sisters Sandra (Eric) and Raquel, along with his beloved niece Maize and nephews Chase and Lukas.

In his early years, Law worked as a line cook and in auto body repair before finding his lifelong trade in carpentry at the age of 20. Many of those years were spent framing with Hawkeye Designs. Throughout his career, he also worked as a house inspector for Qualico Homes on new builds. Notably, he contributed his craft to the set construction team for the TV series The Last of Us (2021–22)—an experience he was immensely proud of.

Recently, Law felt a deep sense of pride and connection upon obtaining his Manitoba Métis Citizenship. He joined the Manitoba Métis Federation office in Brandon as a custodian. He quickly became a cherished colleague and friend to many. He was admired for his humor, warmth, and genuine spirit.

Law’s love of music was a lifelong passion—especially punk. He spent several summers touring across Canada with the band The Ripcordz, making friends wherever he went. He kept those friendships alive throughout his lifetime. Fun fact - he was also a proud member of several bands, including Chicago Machine, 4Fitz, and Ice Fog. Law loved the bagpipes and all things Scottish. He cherished his trip to the Highland games festival in Selkirk with Granny Donald.

Lawrence faced dark challenges that taught him the importance of displaying kindness, acceptance, and unconditional love. He used his charming sailor sense of humor to bring light to everyone around him. Lawrence could see beneath the surface and with that gift found the good in everyone.

He was predeceased by his Maternal grandparents Leslie and Sarah Donald and Auntie Colleen; Paternal grandparents Celestin and Margaret Champagne; and uncles Billy, Fred, and Ernie and cousin Christopher.

Memorial arrangements are entrusted to Memories Chapel in Brandon, Manitoba.

A funeral service will take place at Memories Chapel on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 11:00am with a reception immediately after.

A Celebration of Life will follow at the Double Decker Tavern, Brandon, Manitoba, where friends and family will gather to share stories, music, and laughter in Law’s memory.
