ALLEN: After a courageous battle with cancer, the death of Kimberly Allen, age 62, of Brandon occurred on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Born in Maryville, Tennessee on May 23, 1951 Kim was the youngest of four children born to Kenneth and Jean Christopher. She was raised and attended schools in Overland Park, Kansas. Kim moved from the USA in her early 20s and trained as a nurse, receiving her registered nursing degree from Mount Royal College, Calgary. Throughout her career, Kim worked for medicine and mental health services in Calgary, Winnipeg and Brandon. She was also a nursing instructor at Brandon University. Kim was very active as a deacon in her church and delivered many sermons. She participated in early discussions at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on spiritual care and was very active in addictions counseling at the hospital. Kim belonged to Canadian Nursing, Brandon Health Authority (CAP) and Brandon University. In her spare time, Kim enjoyed quilting, sewing, birding, biking, gardening, camping and kayaking. She especially loved hummingbirds and had a huge collection of them. She also loved walking her dog Max and looked forward to all family activities. Kim is survived by her husband Lyle Redman; daughter Annie Allen (Tim North); granddaughter Lily Marie Allen, the light of her last year of life; son Christopher Allen; stepchildren Whitney Redman, Allan Redman, Carleigh Babiak (Jeremy) and Kim Masterson (Brad); five step-grandchildren as well as siblings: Rob Christopher (Annie) of Utah, Beth Turtle (Jim) of Kansas and Connie Smith (Doug) of Arkansas. She was predeceased by her parents Jean and Ken Christopher and her special companion Max. Ceremony to Celebrate Kim's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Friday, May 31, 2013. Joe Ball officiated. Everyone in attendance was considered honorary pallbearers. Urn bearers were Annie and Lily Marie Allen. Services concluded at the Chapel. Flowers are gratefully declined. Kim's family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit for their caring and compassion.
