WOOD: Kenneth Albert, of Brandon passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on May 27, 2008 at the age of 78 years after a lengthy bout with Kidney Disease. Ken was born in Minto, Manitoba on June 22, 1929 to the late Fred and Emma Wood and lived on the family farm for the first fifteen years of his life until he had to go off to work. At a dance at Margaret, Manitoba, in 1949, he met and fell in love with Blanche Patterson of Wawanesa. They were married four years later. Ken knew the value of a dollar and was a very hard worker. He loved to farm and did so, even while having to secure employment elsewhere. He finished his working career as a Brandon Transit Bus Driver from 1963 until 1985. He often said this was the job that saved his life. Ken and Blanche loved to dance and camp with their RV. Almost every weekend, for a number of years, you would find them strutting their stuff on dance floors across Manitoba and Saskatchewan enjoying themselves with their many friends. Ken leaves to mourn his wife of fifty-five years, Blanche; daughter Wendy (Mike) Labossiere, of Brandon; son Darrell (Kelly) of Okotoks, Alberta; grandchildren: Darcy, Lindsay, and Jessica. He is also survived by his sisters: Laura Rayner of Gibson, British Columbia, Helen (Tom) Woodman of Vancouver, British Columbia, Doreen (Earl) Patterson of Boissevain; brothers George (Sally) of Richmond, British Columbia and Howard (Susan) Wood, of Souris, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his parents Fred and Emma and a brother Harvey. The Funeral Service was held at Memories Chapel on Friday, May 30, 2008. A private family interment followed at Wawanesa Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Ken may be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Westman Office, 42 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B2.
