SWANSON: It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of "Ken" Kenneth Carl Swanson at Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 with his family at his side. Ken was born in Pipestone, Manitoba on July 31, 1952 to Carl and Ruth Swanson of Melita, Manitoba. Ken was the youngest of seven children. At the age of thirteen months, the family moved to Brandon where his father built the family home on 21st Street, leaving brothers Arnold and Gordon to farm the home place in Melita. Due to medical error at birth, Ken was unable to enter the school system. Ken attended Lions School and COR Industries at an early age, and later in life attended Arm Industries and then returned to COR. Ken developed a personality and skills beyond our expectations, and the sense of humour we all loved. For many years, Ken was well known in the neighborhood collecting bottles with his wagon (his favorite pastime). The bottles were always cleaned and well organized to his liking. Ken always enjoyed family gatherings, and got a kick out of stories the family would share, always adding his own comments, "with a hardy laugh". Ken was seventeen when Dad passed away suddenly in January 1970. Ken continued to reside with Mom in the family home until her passing in May 1987. Ken took great pride in his jobs at Prairie Oasis, The Town Centre, and The Food Court. Ken always enjoyed his coffee, Elvis music, bowling, camping trips, Monday night bingo and the Wheat King games. Ken leaves to mourn his passing, his brother Gordon (Joyce); sisters Gloria (Herb) Taylor, Arlene Masson, Lauretta (Clarke) Swanson, Marlys (Gary) Mitchell. Seven nieces, nine nephews as well as several great nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives also survive. Ken was predeceased by his father Carl in 1970; mother Ruth in 1987 and one brother Arnold in 1996 (Irene, 1991). The Ceremony to Celebrate Ken's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Tuesday, January 30, 2007. Urn bearer was Ken's niece, Valerie Taylor. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Ken may be made to the Community Support Program-Brandon Regional Health Authority, c/o B-13 800 Rosser Avenue, Brandon, MB R7A 6N5 or to the Canadian Cancer Society-Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
