Omilanow, Kenneth Walter: 1934-2006 - With sorrow, we mark the passing, after a brief illness, of Wally Omilanow on Tuesday, March 21, 2006. Wally was born into a farming family, and was himself a farmer until 1970. He had various business involvements in Brandon, including a long tenure at C&C Construction and subsequently at Kingsway Kort Ltd. He built a life for himself working with his mind and his hands at a host of unusual and interesting jobs. After retirement, winters spent in Palm Springs with Karen revolved around golf and friends; summers months in Brandon were likewise centered on regular golf league play. Wally enjoyed countless hours at Sandy Lake, lounging in a chair in the shade, visiting with family and friends around a well-stoked fire. He had a way with all types of equipment and machinery, and, with determination and ingenuity, affected many a repair or improvement; he was one who celebrated solving a problem. Wally was devoted to his family-full of advice and wacky one-liners, and always willing to lend a helping hand. While it was difficult to say good-bye to Wally, he did not go alone as part of us went with him. Left to celebrate his life are wife Karen Lynne, son Ken Omilanow (wife Kathy and children Kyle and Kayla), daughter Carole Anderson (husband Jeff and children Sarah and Ellen), daughter Sandra Roy (husband Hubert and children Anastasia and Courtney), daughter Sharon Robinson, sister Mary-Lou Michalyshen, sister-in-law Gertie Omeljanow, extended family and many friends. Wally was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Omeljanow; brother-in-law Joe Michalyshen; sister and brother-in-law Anne and Jim Fedoruk; brother and sister-in-law Tony and Stella Omeljanow; brother Paul Omeljanow; and grandson Ryan Roy. The Ceremony to Celebrate Wally's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, March 25, 2006. Rev. Orton Anderson officiated. Honorary pallbearers were Wally Johnston and Gord Oleksuk. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wally's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0V9 or to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3.
