WOJNICZ: Jozef Wojnicz, beloved husband of Wilma and father of Bruno, passed away in the City of Brandon on April 4, 2005. Jozef was born in Dokszyce, Poland on June 13, 1922. In 1940, he was sent with his family to exile in Siberia. In 1942, he joined the Polish Army organized in the Soviet Union and served in II Corp of Artillery under General Anders. He served in Iraq, Iran, Palestine and Italy. Jozef was a hero of the battle of Monte Cassino. He was decorated with many medals including the Cross of Monte Cassino and the Medal for Foreign Campaign, which was awarded to him by the President of Poland, Lech Walesa. In 1946, he immigrated to Canada where he first worked on the farm and later for the CPR. In 1951, he married Wilma. They had one son, Bruno. Surviving is his wife of 54 years; son Bruno of Winnipeg; three sisters and many nieces and nephews in Poland. Funeral Service was held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, April 9, 2005. Rev. Fr. Leo Fernandes of St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church officiated. Private family interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
