Obituary

Gregoire: Josephine "Jo" Gregoire (nee Wielgosz) passed away quietly on October 30, 2002. Jo was born in Brandon on November 16, 1923 and was the eldest daughter of Florence and Walter Wielgosz. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Walter and Charlie Wielgosz. Jo married Real (Frenchie) Gregoire on November 17, 1945 and they were blessed with three children. Their first daughter, Carol Diane was born on June 20, 1949, died and became God's little angel 14 days later. Then a few years later came Richard followed by Marilyn. Jo and Real moved to Alfred, Ontario in 1955 where they owned an IGA store and enjoyed their many friends in this French speaking community. Jo who already spoke Polish learned to speak French and the family spent a great deal of time with Real's family in Hull, Quebec during those 9 years. In 1963 the family moved back to Brandon where Jo worked at Perth's Dry Cleaners until she suffered a stroke in 1985. Jo was proud and very much enjoyed being a grandma to 4 energetic grandsons. Jo loved going to bingo, and also enjoyed going out for supper and celebrating the birthdays of her sisters, Bernice and Jean and good friend Irene Mitchell. Jo is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband, Real, of 57 years, her son Richard Gregoire, daughter Marilyn Lantz, along with grandsons Geoff and Tim Gregoire and Marc and Michael Lantz. She will be sadly missed by her sisters Bernice Browett and Jean Ryan; brothers Ed Wielgosz and Bernie Wielgosh and many nieces and nephews. Her long time friend, who was like a sister to her, Irene Mitchell and husband John, will miss her. Prayers will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Thursday, October 31, 2002 (tonight) at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church on Friday, November 1, 2002 at 10:00 am. Celebrant will be Fr. Leo Fernandes. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Jo may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, #3-824-18th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 5B7 or the Canadian Cancer Society Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7.
