Obituary

ROBINSON: J. Roy Robinson passed away peacefully on November 29, 2002 at his residence, Fairview Home, with his family at his side. Roy was born on January 2, 1911 in Aurora, Ontario, the 4th child of Reuben and Elizabeth Robinson. As an infant, he moved to Arcola, Saskatchewan with his parents and resided there until the family moved to Roblin, Manitoba in the "dirty thirties", in search of better farming conditions. On October 1, 1941, he married Anna Graham of Foxwarren, and together they had one child, Marion. Anna predeceased Roy in 1953. In 1955, Roy married Lelia Cornwall, and she predeceased him in 1996. In 1936, Roy was employed on the dairy farm of George Cornwall. He then worked for the Co-op in Dauphin and later moved across the street, where he became a Pool Elevator agent. He manned the largest wooden elevator in Manitoba until he transferred to Brandon in 1965. He became the supplies manager for Pool Packers in Brandon, until the plant was sold to Burns. Due to ill health Roy found it necessary to resign from Burns in 1973. In the due course of time he was employed by Brandon Housing Authority as caretaker of two senior citizens apartment buildings, Princess Park and Princess Towers, retiring in 1983. Upon retirement, he and his wife Lelia were happy to be accepted as residents in Hobbs Manor, where he lived until his acceptance into Fairview Home in 1992. Roy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dauphin and transferred his membership to Brandon when he and Lelia moved here. While in Dauphin, he was very involved at Camp Shanti while it was situated in Clear Lake. Roy's family and grandchildren were his life. He loved to play cribbage and spent many hours playing with his son-in-law. During his later years, Roy spent countless hours playing various games of solitaire on his computer. Roy is survived by his daughter, Marion (Kerry) Fair of Sioux Lookout, Ontario; two grandchildren, Kerri-Lee (Troy) Nevil of Medicine Hat, Alberta and Robin (Margaret) Fair of Bellville, Ontario. He also leaves a brother, Tom Robinson of Surrey, BC; sisters-in-law, Helen Toms of Toronto and Bernice Graham of Foxwarren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by wives, Anna and Lelia; a brother, Earl; and sisters, Eva and Gladys. Cremation has taken place. A a family interment service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
