POLNICK: The death of Joseph Polnick, beloved husband of Christine, occurred at the Rideau Park Personal Care Home on Thursday, August 10, 2006. Joe was born in Brandon on February 25, 1923 to Stanley and Kathleen Polnick. Joe attended school in Brandon and on December 1, 1941, he enlisted in the army. He served overseas with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. After the war, Joe came back to Brandon where he met and married Christine Kalinska on September 18, 1948. Next month would have been their 58th wedding anniversary. Together Joe and Chris had one daughter Josie. Joe was a carpenter by trade; in fact, he built the house they live in. When Joe had to leave his job as a carpenter in Shilo due to ill health, he worked at the Sokol Hall as a maintenance man and bartender. He was also a life member of the Sokol Hall. Joe loved his cars and had to have a new one every few years. He always kept them spotless and shiny. He kept his van the longest time and now his grandson Jason has it and keeps it just as shiny. Fishing was Joe's favorite pastime. He spent many years fishing in Northern Manitoba with his friends Wally and Paul. I'm sure they have many stories they could tell. Joe will be remembered by his family and friends for many different things: fishing, making wooden crafts, coffee at the City Centre and Zellers, trips to Zip's Store for bags of candy, feeding ice-cream cones to dogs, watering many graves at the cemetery, building decks and fences, and helping friends with anything he could. If Joe was your friend, you had a friend for life. He was a kind man with a wonderful smile and he will be missed. He is survived by his loving wife Chris; daughter Josie; favorite son-in-law John and grandsons Jeff and Jason. Joe was predeceased by his parents and by his brothers Ed and Charlie. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Memories Chapel on Monday, August 14, 2006. The Rev. Fr. Jerzy Urbanski officiated. Pallbearers were Jeff Chumola, Jason Chumola, John Chumola, Ken Polnik, Terry Polnick, and Bert Perey. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Joe may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, #3-824-18th Street, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 5B7. Expressions of Sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330. Memorials
