Obituary

GRODECKI: Joseph Grodecki, beloved husband of Adeline, died at his residence at Valleyview Care Centre on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the age of 85 years. He was born near Wynyard, SK on September 12, 1925, one of eleven children. He attended Evelyn School, Normal School and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Joe met Adeline Lambert and they married in 1953. They resided in Winnipeg and several towns in Manitoba. In 1967 they moved to Dauphin where Joe continued his teaching career until retiring in 1983. He obtained his CLU and started a career with Sunlife Financial. They moved to Brandon in 1984. Joseph was a member of the Knights of Columbus, an active member of parish council at St. Viator's Parish in Dauphin and St. Hedwig's Parish in Brandon. He had a devoted prayer life and shared his faith by teaching catechism. In his younger days he enjoyed curling, fishing and carpentry. Joe also enjoyed puzzles of all kinds but especially those that challenged his math skills. He liked to watch old movies and play bingo. Joe and Adeline loved to get together with friends to play various card games. Joe was a devoted husband and father, always available to drive his children to events, whether it be school, sports or getting them home from hanging out with friends. He loved family get togethers, his greatest joy being his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His face would light-up when they visited him. Joe was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, five sisters and his infant granddaughter Carson Grodecki. He is survived by: his loving wife Adeline; children, Emily (Doug) Thomson of Brandon, Terry (Merv) Durston of Dauphin, Lawrence of Brandon, Greg of Toronto, Susan (Craig) Hayward of Brandon, Monica (Kevin) Smith of Brandon. Grandchildren: Mike DeVers, Stephanie (Joe) Davison, Nicole (fiance Warren Clark), Samantha Thomson, Tim, Drew and Christie Durston, Sarah and Amy Grodecki, Sandy, Teresa and Morgan Grodecki, Scott and Kelly Hayward, Nicholas Smith. There are three great-grandchildren Alexa, Mikaela and Josh. He is also survived by sisters Emily Stone, Annette Benjamin and Rose Yaskowich, many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Prayers were said at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 2, 2011. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the church on Thursday, February 3, 2011. Rev. Fr. Dominic Yuen was Celebrant. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery.
