ZAHARCHUK: It is with great sorrow that his family announces the passing of John Zaharchuk, 69 years, of Brandon, Manitoba, who passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on September 26, 1999. John was born in Brandon, Manitoba and later moved to Toronto, Ontario where he married his wife of 41 years, Julie Lorenowicz. John worked at C-I-L (I-C-I) Paints as a maintenance mechanic for 33 years. He liked to work in the garden and around the house. John was also a member of the Knights of Columbus where he was a 3rd degree member. His other hobbies included fishing, golfing, making perogies and cabbage rolls. John was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Bernice Zaharchuk; son, Dr. David John Zaharchuk; sisters and brother: Rose Houssain, Irene Gan, and Peter Zaharchuk. He is survived by his wife, Julie Marie; his sons: Glenn Robert of Ajax, Ontario and Ted Joseph (Cathy) and their son Jacob Joseph of Toronto, Ontario; and daughter, Joanne Marie Chapman (Allan) and their son Johnathan of Toronto, Ontario. Also surviving are: four brothers: William, Wally, Tom, and Danny; seven sisters: Anne, Mary, Stella, Helen, June, Nadia, and Cecile. Prayers were said at Memories Chapel on Wednesday, September 29, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. Divine Liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church September 30, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. Celebrant was Fr. Michael Tkachuk assisted by Cantor, Mr. Peter Romanik. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of John may be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Westman Chapter, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B2 or to a charity of choice.
