John Edward (Ted) Lamport

November 26, 1941 – July 10, 2026 (84)

Ted was born November 26, 1941 in Deloraine MB to parents Roy and Hazel Lamport. He was the eldest of 5 children: Linda (Art) Schuddemat, Jim (late Thorie), Wayne (Raylene), and Bob (Cory).

Ted was raised on the Lamport family farm in Melita (SW 36-4-27 in the RM of Edward), it was here he found his love of agriculture and the farming lifestyle. He loved working side by side with his dad, and later on with his sons.

Ted saw the love of his life Shirley for the first time, they locked eyes together while she was standing outside Melita School with a group of friends. It took Ted a few weeks to search her out in her home town of Lyleton MB, but his persistence paid off.

Ted and Shirley married in July 1968 at the Melita United Church. They raised their three sons, John, Jason and Derek on the same family farm where Ted was raised.

Ted was a very knowledgeable and accomplished farmer and cattleman. He was very diligent and hardworking in this field.

In 2003 Ted and Shirley took on a new adventure and sold the family farm in Melita. They moved to another farm in the Interlake, near Lake Francis at NE-17-15-3 in the RM of Woodlands, close to where his son John and family were living at the time.

With this move, he transitioned from mixed farming to a large custom feedlot and hay farming business, combining both love of cattle and haying. In 2012 Ted formed “Lamport Farms” with his son John.

Ted and Shirley moved into their new home in Brandon in 2015, this allowed them to be closer to Derek, who had moved to Brandon a few years before. Their new home became a gathering spot for Christmas celebrations, birthdays, anniversaries, BB-Q’s and graduations. In retirement Ted and Shirley found time to travel and rekindled their love of dancing.

Ted always took great pride in his land and vehicles on the farm, this continued in Brandon as Ted and Shirley worked many hours in the yard maintaining the grass at just the right height, with not one dandelion in sight!

For Ted, time with family was always important and he was proud of his sons and grandkids. We will miss his laughter, stories, smiles, teasing and hugs.

Ted was the proud father of three boys: John (Kelly), Jason (Angela) and Derek. Ted cherished his role as grandpa to Cale (Taylor) and Dillen and great grandfather to Cale’s children Aubrey and Weston.

Ted is predeceased by his parents Roy and Hazel Lamport, his parents-in-laws George and Ellen Fletcher, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gord and Elna Melvin, sister-in-law Thorie Lamport and great grandniece Taylor Renwick.

We would like to thank all those involved with Ted’s care over the last two months. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the BRHC Foundation-Palliative Care Unit or Western Manitoba Cancer Center.

A very special thanks to all of our family and friends that provided support, your love and kindness is much appreciated.
