STASILA: John Stasila, beloved father of Bob, Helen and Larry, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, November 14, 2006. John was born November 27, 1930 in Brandon. He grew up in the North end where everyone was family. John lived in Brandon all his life. He worked at the Army Navy, the Sokol Hall and Merchant Marines, prior to his employment with CP Rail for 37 years before retiring in January 1990. On November 20, 1953, John married Velma Moore. After many years of hard work, they enjoyed several winters after retirement at Siesta Village in Weslaco, Texas. He was a member of the Sokol Hall, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Army Navy and Air Force. John was active and supported fishing and hunting. He enjoyed bowling, berry picking and "shopping". He also enjoyed coffee with friends and socializing. John spent many weekends at the cabin at Sandy Lake. He loved to be outside planting and maintaining a garden while supplying fresh veggies to all his family and friends. John was a very dedicated grandpa, known to his grandchildren as "Papa". He was predeceased by his wife Velma; parents Mary and Andrew Stasila. He is survived by: sons Bob and Larry (Bonnie), daughter Helen (Garry); grandchildren, Erin, Kylie, Jason, Kristie, Kim, Ryan and Taylor and great grandchildren, Madison, Nicholas and Brady. He also leaves two brothers, Stanley and Frank. The Ceremony of Christian Burial was held at Memories Chapel on Friday, November 17, 2006. Celebrant was Fr. Ragu Madanu. A private graveside was held at the Brandon Cemetery.
