Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Wallace Carter-Squire, who lost his courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, April 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 11, 1961, to Duane and Mona Carter-Squire, in Brandon, Manitoba, John graduated from Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School in 1979. He held several jobs early in his career, always known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand. He eventually joined Piston Ring, where he worked until 1991. That same year, he earned his Fourth-Class Power Engineering certification and went on to work for Brandon School Division until 2001, when he took a position with Brandon University, where he remained dedicated for the rest of his career.

In 1988, John met the love of his life, Kimberly, and the two were married in 1989. That same year, they welcomed their daughter, Samantha, into the world, followed by their son, Cody, in 1992. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and resilience.

John was a devoted son, a loving husband, a proud father, and a caring friend to many. He will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, quiet confidence, and sharp wit — qualities that left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. His deep love for his family and the steady presence he brought to their lives will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

A passionate and loyal Toronto Maple Leafs fan, he never gave up on his team, holding fast to the belief that their time would come. "This will be their year," he'd often say — and he meant it every single time.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kimberly, daughter, Samantha, and son, Cody (Abby), mother, Mona, and brother Danny. He also leaves behind extended family and many close friends. He was predeceased by his father, Duane and brother, Jeffrey.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Erica Moller, as well as the incredible staff at Western Manitoba Cancer Centre and the Assiniboine Centre, Palliative Floor, for the compassionate care they provided to John.

A service will take place at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, Brandon, MB on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a cancer research foundation of your choice.

Forever cheering for the Leafs, forever in our hearts.
