MUNRO: John Edward Munro, husband of Gloria, passed away, Saturday, September 9, 2000 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, with his family at his side. John was born October 24, 1921 at Brandon General, son of Florence and John Munro. In early years he attended Fleming, Earl Oxford and B.C.I. Schools. John started farming at the age of 17, 5 miles South West of Brandon. It was his love! He met and married Gloria May Cox and together they raised 5 children: Edward, Margaret, Shirley, William and Kenneth. Throughout the years, as he farmed, John worked at the Anglo Oil Refinery, Wilton's and Kelleher's. He always had a huge garden which was a family affair, and made sure his kids shared part of it. As years went by and grandkids came, it grew from potatoes, to peanuts, to pumpkins. And how they enjoyed carving Grandpa's pumpkins! When he retired and moved to town the farm came with him. Mom still doesn't know what some of these "valuables" are in the shed! John spent many weekends driving around and checking out the crops. He grew up with his only sister Peg to whom he was known as "Jack". He absolutely adored her and up until his last days, they would call each other every day. Whenever the children stopped in, they were given the latest news of what Aunty Peg was up to. John was a man of simple tastes. He never liked any fuss over him. He had a heart of gold and always looked after others in that caring way. Even at the end, when the nurses asked if he needed anything, he was always O.K. He was predeceased by his parents, John in 1949 and Florence in 1980. Left to mourn are his wife Gloria of 47 years; children: Ed, Marg (Doug Smith), Shirley (Jim Kauk), Bill (special friend Kim) and Ken (Shawna); grandchildren: Amber Chaboyer (Jimmy), Aaron Munro, Jill and Marty Kauk; 2 great grandchildren Tanner and Kade Chaboyer; and his only sister Peg (Chuck Pineo). A private family service was held, as Dad wanted, on September 12, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at Memories Chapel. Mona Franklin officiated. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Eldest grandchild, Amber Chaboyer, was the urn bearer. After laying roses at the grave, Bill placed a sheaf of wheat as a final tribute. If friends so desire donations may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
