McLARTY: John (Jack) Alexander McLarty passed away suddenly at home on January 15, 2000 in his 91st year. Jack was born on September 11, 1909 in the Hazeldell district in Manitoba, second son and fourth child of the late Donald and Alice McLarty. Jack worked on the family farm before joining the C.P.R. in 1941. He joined the army in 1942 serving overseas with the First Anti Tank Regiment until he was discharged in 1945. He returned to work for the C.P.R. and married Sarah Black on June 5, 1946. Jack worked for the C.P.R. until his retirement in 1972. They then moved to Brandon and lived in their new house until December 1999 at which time they moved into the Lions Manor. He took great pleasure in watching all of his grandchildren participate in their activities. Jack was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching baseball and hockey. He curled for many years with the senior group at the Keystone Centre. Jack and Sarah enjoyed walking and weather permitting, went for a walk every day right up until Jack's passing. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sarah; son Donald and his wife Sandra and their sons Ryan and Corey of Edmonton; son Murray and wife Debra and their sons Shaun and Colin of Winnipeg; daughter, Sharon and husband Garry Dirr and their children Tasha and Jordan of Winnipeg. Jack is also survived by his sister Margaret Stouffer of Brandon; brother Tom (Adeline) of Killarney; sisters-in-law Marjorie of Brandon, Hazel of Killarney; brothers-in-law Ernest (Verna) Black of Dauphin, John (Marie) Black of Edmonton, Elmer (Pearl) Black of Holmfield; sisters-in-law Etta Tutthill of Elkhorn and Violet (Llew) Baker of Cypress River; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his brothers Wilfred, George, Jim and Stuart; his sister Isabel Moffat; sister-in-law Evelyn; brothers-in-law Percy Moffat and Bernard Tutthill; and father-in-law Percy and mother-in-law Mary Black. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2000 (tonight) from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North. The funeral service will be held at Knox United Church, 451 - 18th Street, on Wednesday, January 19, 2000 at 2:00 pm. Lydia Glawson will officiate. Pall Bearers will be Jack's nephews: Marvin McLarty, Tom McLarty, Walter McLarty, Lorne McLarty, Mervyn Moffat and Jim Stouffer. Interment will follow in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
