MAY: John Cecil May passed away suddenly at their summer home in Pelican Lake on August 28, 2000 at the age of 71. John was born March 24, 1929 on the home farm in Riverside district. He was the third oldest in a family of eight children. He attended the Stockdale school and at an early age devoted most of his growing up years to working on the family farm. Beloved husband and faithful companion to Ruth for 48 years and loving father of Sharol Lepp (Leonard) of Rivers; dear Papa of Julie McNeill (Kent) of Winnipeg, Jolene, Jayme, and Roger Lepp of Winnipeg and Great Grandfather of Mitchell & Kahlan McNeill of Winnipeg. Since 1962, John spent most of his life working in heavy construction building many large structures in Brandon, such as the Brandon University, Simplot and 18th Street Bridge. In 1970, he started his own construction business building several residential homes and larger projects as well. He always worked hard at any task. John always showed love, patience, and support to his family and dearly loved his Grandchildren. He always had time to help in any way, whether it was building/renovating for his daughter or working on the farm alongside his son-in-law. He always worked hard and believed hard work never hurt anyone. He was always there to lend a hand, and no task was too great for him. His love for his grandchildren was evident in the many things he built for their enjoyment over their childhood years. He always enjoyed their company and their many fun times at the cottage. The last 10 years John enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Pelican Lake in Ninette which was close to where he grew up. John was interested in developing their lake shore property and was never idle, as he always had a job to do with one of his tractors. He enjoyed going to Auctions and would always find time to visit with friends over a coffee. John is also survived by his three sisters: Florence Tobey (Allan) of Owen Sound, Ontario; Ella Roy of Portage la Prairie, MB; Mary Maxwell of Belmont, MB. His three brothers: Earl May (Teressa) of Winnipeg, MB; Allan May of High River, AB; Murray May (Elizabeth) of Killarney, MB, as well as many nieces and nephews. John was pre-deceased by two brothers: Phillip and Fred; his parents Everett and Jean May: brother-in-laws Harold Sneath, Lynton Maxwell and Dave Roy; sister-in-laws Kay May and Jeanette Sneath. The Memorial Service was held on September 1, 2000 at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church with Rev. Cliff Bergman officiating, former Pastor Audrey Kemp of Killarney Baptist Church and Pastor Dennis Schram of Manhattan Beach Retreat Centre. Interment was held at the Rivers Mennonite Cemetery in Rivers, MB. His presence will be greatly missed and never forgotten with our many treasured memories.
