INGRAHAM: John W. Ingraham passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre with all of his family at his bedside. John's journey with Lou Gerhig's disease is finally over. In the past 14 months John showed incredible strength and courage that every one of his family members will never forget. He was the "Bravest of The Bravest". John was born May 9, 1937, one of thirteen children in Inverness County, Nova Scotia, to Murdock and Ella Ingraham. He lived and attended school in Inverness until the young age of 17, when he joined the army. John served 21 years in the service, stationed in New Brunswick, Winnipeg and Shilo. In 1975 he took early retirement from the Army to move his family back to Inverness to be with his ailing father. In 1977, he returned to Brandon and worked with DND as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 1997. Upon retirement he sold his cabin at Minnedosa and purchased a 5th Wheel and was very pleased to be able to take the love of his life on some trips to Texas until his illness would not permit. John belonged to the Westman Stock Car Club. He gave many hours of his time to making sure the track was graded to perfection. When he wasn't grading the track he was up in the tower as the flagman. John enjoyed his family to the fullest. He enjoyed taking them camping and taught all of his children how to fish. John took great pride and pleasure in being his son's right hand man in the pits at the Stock Car Track. John enjoyed all of the years he got to spend with his grandchildren. This past winter was an incredible struggle for him, but he still managed to find the energy to go to his grandson's hockey games. He enjoyed every minute of those games. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jan; children Shelly (Bruce) Moar, Laura Ingraham, Donna (Ron) Sanders, Joy (Maurice) Snow, Tim (Maxine) Ingraham; grandchildren Janna, Melinda, Derek, Terra, Mandi, Kyle, Jennassa, Tyler and Taya. John was predeceased by his parents Ella and Murdock Ingraham. The Celebration of John's life took place on Friday, July 4, 2003 at Memories Chapel. Urn Bearer was Janna Blaine. Honorary Pallbearers (chosen by John) were: Tim Ingraham, Ron Sanders, Bruce Moar, Maurice Snow, Ken Mauthe and Tim Adolphe. A private family interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of John to Walk To D'Feet ALS 2003 Site 115, Box 6, RR #1, Brandon, MB R7A 5Y1.
