HEMING: John Walter Ogilvy Heming passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, on Monday,
September 19, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Captain Garry Keeping of the Salvation Army Citadel will officiate. Interment will follow in the Veterans' Section of the Brandon Cemetery. HEMING: John Walter Ogilvy Heming passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. John was born on December 6, 1925 in Winnipeg, MB. He attended school in MacGregor, MB. John was a prairie boy who ended up joining the Navy during the Second World War. His time in St. John's and Halifax left a deep impression and love of the east
coast. After the war he enrolled at the University of New Brunswick where he received a degree in forestry. John worked in forestry and later the forest products and lumber business in British Columbia. When he returned to Manitoba he managed the Royal Canadian Legion in Brandon before establishing Heming Lumber. John was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Past Master
of the Masons in B.C. and former Director of The Western Retail Lumbermen's Association. John loved following sports, particularly curling, golf and baseball and was a great cribbage player. He also keenly followed politics. His favorite spot to unwind was the family cottage at Sandy Lake. John was predeceased by his parents Ellenor and Charles Heming; and sister Margaret Heming. John is survived by his wife Marie of Brandon; stepchildren Allan Ratcliffe of Brandon and Dale Ratcliffe of Stratford Ontario; and many close sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. A Ceremony to Celebrate John's Life was held at Memories Chapel, on Monday, September 19, 2005. Capt. Garry Keeping of the Salvation Army Citadel officiated. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. Interment followed in the Veterans' Section of the Brandon Cemetery.
