Obituary

GRAYSTON: John Grayston passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, May 3. 2006. John was born on December 4, 1925 in Newdale, Manitoba the son of William and Leonora Grayston. He received his education in Newdale and served in the Royal Canadian Navy during WW II. John attended the University of Manitoba studying agriculture and graduated in 1949. He worked with Bray Hatchery in Hamilton, ON and then operated Grayston Hatchery in Brandon for over 30 years. John also spent many falls helping friends harvest crops and inspecting poultry flocks. He enjoyed curling, participating in many bonspiels, and playing golf. He was an avid baseball fan, particularly enjoying the Riverside Blues. Throughout his life, John shared his profound respect for living things by encouraging his family to notice animals and flowers. He enjoyed gardening and picked raspberries patiently. Many late summer trips were taken to locate and pick highbush cranberries and chokecherries, which were enjoyed by family members as preserved fruit or jellies. In his later years, he enjoyed walking at the cabin and watching wildlife near Onanole. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Idabel (nee King); children, Margaret Alfred, Isobel (Al) Gregoire, Norm (Margaret Lynn) and Garry (Gabriella); grandchildren, Michael, Rylan (Leanne), Janicka (Nathen). and Nathan; and great grandchild, Jim Harold. He is also survived by: his sisters and their families, Mary Kruse-Steer of Seattle, WA, Amy Mitchell and Winnifred Grayston of Brandon. John was predeceased by: his parents, William and Leonora. The family will hold a private graveside ceremony at the Newdale Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
