GRANGER: John Haselden, beloved husband of Peggy, passed away at the Assiniboine Centre on March 10, 2006, in his 101 year. John was born July 7, 1905 to Ernest and Jane Granger on their farm in the Rounthwaite district. He was the middle child in a family of 7 and the first to be born in the big white house. He attended Delton School until grade 8 when he was needed to work on the family farm. John was a quiet man with a kind word for all and a helping hand in the time of trouble. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, his God and his farm, baseball and curling. He also liked working with his animals and especially his horses. He played his fiddle for the local dances. John married Peggy Elder October 15, 1930; they raised 2 children on their farm near Rounthwaite where he was a life long member of the St. John Anglican Church. He also was a Mason in Brandon for many years. Selling his farm to his son, he retired to Brandon in 1970 but continued to help with the farm work until 1999. He often said how lucky he was to have farmed with every type of machinery from the oxen and horse drawn kind right up to the large Case IH Steiger tractor he used well into his 90's. John and Peggy spent 17 happy winters in their home in south Texas, where they won many a shuffleboard trophy. In 2000 they moved to Riverheights Terrace where John enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool and helping with the Jig saw puzzles. July 7, 2005 he celebrated his 100th birthday and an early 75th wedding anniversary, with family and friends. John always liked having family and friends around and had a special love for children, who loved him back. John was predeceased by his parents, 2 sisters-Eva and Olive, 4 brothers-Fred, Ernie, Charlie and Paul. He leaves to sadly miss his kind loving and helpful ways his wife Peggy, son Jack, daughter Muriel and son-in-law Bill English and daughter-in-law Donna Granger. Grandchildren Kim, Patrick and Scott English, Stewart Granger, Thea (Bill) Thompson and Andrew (Colleen) Granger. Great Grandchildren Chelsa English, Hannah and Jessica Granger, Kailey and Jayce Thompson. Many nieces and nephews as well as all who knew this wonderful giving man, he was well loved. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 17, 2006 at Memories Chapel and he was laid to rest in Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to Westman Dreams for Kids will be appreciated.
