Obituary

GEORGE: John Wallace "Jack" George passed away at Fairview Home on Sunday, June 27, 2004. Survived by: his beloved wife, Marion (nee Wood); sons Graham (Daintry) of Victoria, BC, Colin of Calgary, AB; new grandson and namesake, Kade John Wallace George; sister, Anne (Charlie) Bird and families. He is also survived by, his brother-in-law, Ken (Linda) Wood and family; sister-in-law, Sharon Wood; cousins, Jim, Bob, Brian Melvin and Doug, Bob Morrison and families. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Cliff and Blanche George. Born on March 27, 1939, Jack was raised on the family farm at Deloraine. Upon graduation, he began a 40 year career with the Province of Manitoba in the Land Titles Office. Jack retired in December of 1997 as Assistant District Registrar. Besides his family, Jack had a great love of music, especially Big Band. He first learned to play the piano, then taught himself the Saxophone/Clarinet. From the age of 15, he was playing these instruments in various dance bands throughout Southwestern Manitoba. Jack played with the Brandon Legion Band, Intergenerational Band, and until his health denied his ability, the Scottie McIntosh Big Band. In 1982, he found another interest in Amateur Ham Radio, enjoying contacts locally and around the world. Travel was important and as a family or couple, he explored many areas in Canada, USA, Yukon and the Caribbean; by train, plane, automobile and even a couple of cruise liners. Volunteering after retirement included: Tourist Greeters, Literacy Program, and the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, where he enjoyed the interaction with people. Following his accident in July 1999, and his subsequent diagnosis of Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy, his health and independence progressively deteriorated. He was able to remain at home with family and Home Care until his move to Fairview Home in April 2003. Jack's final volunteer wish was to donate his brain for research into this debilitating illness. The family wish to thank the great staff of Home Care and Fairview, for their care and compassion. A private graveside ceremony will be held at the Deloraine Cemetery. The Memorial Ceremony to Celebrate Jack's Life will be held at Central United Church, 327-8th Street on Friday, July 2, 2004 at 2:00 pm. The Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood will officiate.
