DEMOND: The death of John Albert Demond, beloved husband of Kae, Brandon, occurred at Fairview Home, Brandon, on Wednesday, June 25, 2003. John was born at Upper Cornwall, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, on June 2, 1928, to the late Guy and Alice (Cuthbertson) Demond. Besides his loving wife Kae, he is survived by sons, Brian (Dahl), and Kenneth (Lisa), grandchildren Kyler and Kelsey and two step-grandchildren Kensie and Brittany, brothers Sidney (Shirley) of Winnipeg, Rodger (Linda) and George (Greta) and sister Susie Colichio (Mario) and sister-in-law Barbara Demond all of Nova Scotia, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Mary, and a brother William. Prior to enlisting in the Army, John was employed at the Des Joachim Generating Station near Rolphton, Ontario on the Ottawa River. He enlisted on September 21, 1950 in the Artillery and made many lifelong friendships. He retired in March of 1979 with rank of Warrant Officer. Following this he was employed as Manager of the Royal Canadian Legion for two years then several law firms for seven years. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #3, and served as President as well as many other capacities. He was Zone #25 Commander and District #2 Chairman. He was a Past Master of Brandon #19 Masonic Lodge, Past District Deputy Grand Master, and Treasurer of Brandon Lodge #19. He was also a Past President of the Brandon Youth Sports Booster Club, and Treasurer of FSNA. John often entertained by reciting the whole book "The Cremation of Sam McGee" without looking at a word. John's interest included square dancing, singing, curling, golfing, and the Antique Club until he was afflicted with Alzheimers. His greatest love was his two beautiful grandchildren, Kyler and Kelsey, whom he just adored. Despite some drawbacks like two open-heart surgeries and other minor ailments, John and Kae enjoyed many trips back to his beloved Nova Scotia, also Newfoundland, Ontario and British Columbia, as well as several cruises. The family would like to thank the nursing staff on the fifth floor at Fairview Home for their care and concerns. Memorial Service will be held at Central United Church on Monday, June 30, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood officiating. There will be a prelude of John's favorite band music by the Air Command and RCHA, approximately 40 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #3, 560-13th Street East, Brandon, R7A 7C1.
