John "Jack" Andrew Chapman went to be with the Lord on the morning of October 31, 2024, at the age of 95 years while surrounded by his wife and family at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon.

Jack was born September 10, 1929, to Norman and Olive (Granger) Chapman at the Brandon General Hospital. He had four brothers, Bruce (died in infancy), Glenn (Peggy), Colin (Linda Faye), and Keith (Jean). He was predeceased by his parents Norman & Olive Chapman, his brothers Bruce, Glenn, Colin and Keith and cousin, Wilbert Chapman.

Jack will forever be in the hearts of his loving wife Margaret "Peggy" and four children, Sandra (Mervin) Melnychenko, Phillip (Janice) Chapman, Jan (Braden) Pilling, and Barb (Todd) Chambers. His grandchildren Laura Melnychenko (Don Lomenda), Andrew (Jennifer) Melnychenko, Angel (Deegan) James, Jessica Melnychenko, Jade (Pritish) Samuel, Jasmine (Daryl) Kopytko, Joel (Lays) Chapman, Ben Pilling, Allie Pilling, Charlie Chambers (Madi Humphreys), Kolby Chambers. Great grandsons, Wyatt, Jack, Arthur Melnychenko, Granger & Kye James. His sisters-in law Jean, Peggy and Linda Faye Chapman as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jack and his brothers along with his cousin Wilbert were raised on the family farm in the Brandon Hills. He went to school by horseback to East Brandon School grades 1 – 3, Brandon Hills School grades 4 – 9, and attended high school at the Brandon Collegiate for grade 10. He took industrial arts where he learned to weld and lathe work skills which he used all his farming life. He farmed for a number of years with his father and brother, Keith and purchased the farm on the northside of the Brandon Hills.

Jack married Margaret (Peggy) Jessie Mawer, November 12, 1960. They were best friends and life-long partners being married just 12 days short of their 64th wedding anniversary. In 1963, they built their home on the farm where they raised their family.

Jack was a fixer and a builder. He and his brother Keith worked together on the house when it was being built which included doing the plumbing and wiring. Jack enjoyed grain farming. He was gifted at welding and fixing equipment and anything else that needed repairing. Jack and his brother, Keith worked together and built a 4-wheel drive tractor out of an old truck that had 36 speeds. Neighbours slowed down on the road when they saw that in the field. Jack had many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed canoeing on the creek with the kids, snowmobiling, working in the shop, doing wood lathe work making vases and lamps, and photography. He was a self-taught guitar player and always enjoyed visiting with family and friends. In his later years he loved gardening, playing solitaire on the computer, going for coffee at McDonald's, attending church and prayer meetings as well as attending any of his grandchildren's sports and activities. He was a long-time member of the Brandon Hills community where he served on the cemetery board and helped out with many community events. He was on the founding board of the Westoba Credit Union and served as chair for one year. He taught Sunday School throughout the years including teaching alongside Peggy, the adults with disabilities class at Bethel where he loved to play guitar during those classes.

Our Dad was a man of strong faith and enjoyed his walk with his Lord and Saviour Jesus and being a part of the church family here in Brandon. Dad may your life & love for God, be our forever testimony and may we uphold the legacy you have left us.

Jack's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The celebration of Jack's life took place on Friday, November 8th at Bethel Christian Assembly. For those wishing to donate in memory of Jack, they may be sent to Adult & Teen Challenge, 127 7th Street Brandon, MB R7A 3S5 or the Brandon Hills Cemetery, RR4 Box 20 Brandon, MB R7A 5Y4
