BROWNRIDGE: John Walter Brownridge, of Brandon, beloved husband of Marjorie for 52 years, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at the age of 82. John was born on June 23, 1926 in Brandon. He was the fourth of nine children born to Harold and Marguerite Brownridge. The family farmed north of Brandon in the Rugby District where John started school. He also attended Rapid City, Oakleigh and Glanton schools. John worked for his uncle Austin Brownridge taking care of the heavy horses and had the opportunity to attend the Royal in Toronto twice with his uncle Austin to show the horses. Later he worked for Frank Anderson north of Brandon. He met Marjorie Gill from Rivers at a dance in Brandon, and it was love at first sight. They were married September 5, 1956. They lived most of their married life in the Linden Lanes area of Brandon, and in 2007 moved to Victoria Landing. John and Marjorie were loyal members of St. Paul's United Church, and later founding members of Trinity United Church. John loved to sing and was a faithful member of Trinity choir and the Brandon Barbershop Chorus for many years. He believed in giving back to his community and could often be found assisting with various local charities. He was told he had a much-needed blood type (O-) and as a result, donated blood to the Red Cross over 135 times. John worked for Western Motors and the City of Brandon, retiring from the Water Treatment Plant after 33 years. He enjoyed traveling, curling, shuffleboard, dancing and talking to people. John was blessed with good health for most of his life and could often be seen walking the neighborhood with Marj, getting his daily exercise. He slowed down in the last few years due to failing health, but always had a smile on his face and a comment about the weather. He loved family gatherings and attended several Brownridge reunions near the original homestead in Brampton, Ontario. John is survived by his loving wife Marjorie; daughters: Janet (Robert) Davidson, Cheryl (Shawn) Tait, Debra (Greg) McLeod, Karen (Hossein Arabzadeh) Brownridge; eight grandchildren: Mark, Adam, Elizabeth and Laura Davidson, Jordan and Courtney Tait, Brendan and Kaitlyn McLeod. Siblings: Jean Haslen, Audrey (John) Phillips, Bill (Cecile) Brownridge, Gwen (Ernie) Hickson, Shirley (John) Krawchuk; brother-in-law Orval (Celia) Farough, and many nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Marguerite; sister Mary Farough; brothers: Murray and Keith; brother-in law Ralph Haslen; sister-in-law Betty Brownridge and nephew Ian Haslen. The Ceremony to Celebrate John's Life will be held at Trinity United Church, 1515-6th Street, on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harvey Hurren officiating. Assisted by Rev.
