Obituary

SMIT (nee Seysener): It is with profound sadness that we announce, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease, the peaceful passing of Johanna "Ann" Smit our beloved wife, mother and oma on Sunday, August 3, 2003. Ann was born on April 26, 1929 in Zaandam, The Netherlands and was one of eleven children. After completing her schooling, she was employed as a stenographer in the office of a perfume factory, when she met her future husband, Gerry. They were married on March 16, 1955 and immigrated to Canada two weeks later. Their first home was in Antigonish, NS where they lived for 4 ??? years and their two sons, Gerry and Bob were born. From there they moved to Boissevain, then to Carman where their daughter Margie was born. In 1973 the family moved to Brandon where Ann resided until her passing. During Ann's time in Brandon she was employed with BGH and the Westman Lab until her retirement in 1989. She loved everything life had to offer. Time with her family, travelling, walks with her husband, tending to her flowers, visiting with friends only partially describes her zest for life. Ann's genuine smile said it all. She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters and a brother. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 48 years, Gerry; sons Gerry (Rita) Smit; Bob (Carol) Smit; daughter Margie (Rick) Charney; grandchildren Stacey and Marisa Smit, Tara and Julie Smit, and Daniel, Shelby and Nicky Charney. Ann is also survived by five sisters, two brothers, numerous in laws, nieces and nephews in The Netherlands, and a sister-in-law in Sweden, "TOT ZIENS". Prayers were held at Memories Chapel on Friday, August 8, 2003. Mass of Christian Burial was Celebrated at St. Augustine's Catholic Church on Saturday, August 9, 2003. Celebrant was Fr. Eric Giddins. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Ann to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Westman Region, 437-9th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4A9. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to memorieschapel@mts.net. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330. Memorials
