FRIESEN: Joan Delorise Friesen (nee Hiebert) passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Friday, September 28, 2007. Joan grew up in the Carman area, but lived most of her adult life in Brandon, Manitoba. She developed many friendships throughout the years while living in Brandon. She was a giving individual who gave a helping hand to those in need whenever she was able. She struggled with Schizophrenia throughout her adult life, which often made things difficult for her and those that cared for her. Joan was able to maintain contact with her family over the years. She could have easily been lost forever. Joan was an artistic soul. She enjoyed doing all sorts of crafts such as drawing, crochet, and knitting. She also enjoyed singing. Her favorites included "Jesus Loves Me" and "Row, Row Your Boat", sung on family Sunday drives. Left to mourn is her daughter Valerie (Dave), granddaughters: Amelia and Olivia all of Calgary, Alberta; son Kelvin (Sonya), grandsons: Nicholas and Christopher all of Grande Prairie, Alberta; daughter Irene (Darwin), grandsons: James, Adam, Jonathan, and Darrick of Beaverlodge, Alberta. Joan is also survived by her sisters Connie (Neil), Barb, Denise (Kelli); brothers Jim, Rick and Larry. Joan was predeceased by her parents Dave and Edna Hiebert and her nephew Clinton McLaughlin. In the end, she died peacefully without pain. She was not alone at the time of death or is she alone in death. She is with our God and his angels, smiling down upon us, encouraging us to live on as a mother always does. The Ceremony to Celebrate Joan's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Tuesday, October 2, 2007. Mr. Alfred Klassen officiated. Pallbearers were Rick Hiebert, Denise McLaughlin, Kelli McLaughlin, Neil Unrau, Kelvin Friesen, and Valerie Pasolli. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Joan may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 9Z9 or to the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society 100-4 Fort Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 1C4.
