SEBASTIAN: Jessie (Koroscil) passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, August 11, 2008. Jessie was born September 10, 1924 at Shoal Lake, Manitoba, the eldest of 14 children to Bill and Anne Koroscil. At the age of 14 she began to work for the Young family of Newdale in assisting with care for their children Donna, Bob and Janet. They made sure she went home every weekend to Sandy Lake and Jessie considered the Youngs her second family throughout her life. It was here that she learned to make bread, buns and pickles. At 18 she moved to Brandon and worked at restaurants throughout the city including the Cameo, The Ramada Inn and The Suburban. She was a faithful member of St. Augustine's Parish. On April 11, 1947 she married Raymond William Sebastian. They had three sons: Allan Raymond and Raymond Carson, both of whom died shortly after birth, and Douglas Roy. For over forty years Jessie lived in the home that Ray built for them. Jessie's home was the place to pop in for a coffee and snack and she made sure no one ever went home hungry. She not only fed those who walked through her door, but the birds and squirrels that visited her yard. If she wasn't answering her door, she was picking up her phone - but everything stopped for one hour a day when it came to her soap operas. The family enjoyed many trips, but Jessie talked of her Alaskan vacation the most. Ray and Jessie both enjoyed fishing throughout Manitoba and Jessie was the fish-filleter for Ray and his buddies. Jessie loved to go to the casino where she always played her twenty-dollar limit and usually came out a winner. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to all the staff at Rideau Park for caring for Jessie during her time there. She is survived by son Douglas and wife Sharron; grandchildren Josh and Lia Sebastian; brothers: Les, Victor (Judy), David (Olive) Koroscil; sisters: Mary (Eddie) Brodacki, Kay (Steve) Wozney, Nellie (Melvin) Cherpako, Sophie Paslawsky, Rosie (John) Wozney and Lorraine Kufflick; brother-in-law Charlie (Evelyn) Sebastian, sister-in-law Agnes Koroscil and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents John and Anne Koroscil, father and mother-in-law Charles and Ann Sebastian, husband Ray; sons Allan and Raymond; brothers: John, Alex, George and Harry Koroscil; brothers-in-law Russell Kufflick, Robert Sebastian; sister-in-law Isabel Koroscil. In keeping with Jessie's wishes, no formal ceremony will be held. Flowers are gratefully declined.
