Jessie McPherson (nee Walsh), formerly of the Brandon Hills district, died peacefully on Saturday, August 21, 2021. She was predeceased by her much loved husband Howard in 2005. She is lovingly remembered by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Muriel and Cody of Pincher Creek, AB, Nancy and Dennis of Brandon Hills and her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Anne of Calgary, AB. She took special delight in her grandchildren, Claire and Paul Johnson, Teagan Mauthe, Saylor, Duncan and Baye McPherson. Also remembering her with love are her sister-in-law Margaret McPherson of Winnipeg and cousin Joyce and her husband Sveinn Eyolfson of Moose Jaw, SK. Many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends have fond memories of visits with Jessie.
Jessie was born on March 21, 1922. She was the fourth child of six, born to Ford and Annie Walsh of Sceptre, Saskatchewan. After high school, she moved to Winnipeg but remained connected to her Saskatchewan roots throughout her lifetime. Jessie loved her years working at the Canadian Wheat Board at Portage & Main. In 1955 she married Howard McPherson and actively farmed with him until they retired to Brandon in 1999. She continued to enjoy the friendships and sense of community on Hummingbird Lane after Howard's death. At 96, she was thrilled to achieve her personal goal of one thousand workouts at a local gym! At this age, she also decided to give up cooking and moved to Rotary Villa in 2018 where she appreciated her new community. She was a lifelong volunteer with Brandon Hills United Church, numerous organizations in the Brandon Hills district, the Canadian Cancer Society and Daly House Museum.
"We will always remember her commitment to family and friends as she hosted many gatherings at her table. She was grateful for the opportunities in her life and believed strongly in giving back to community. As a family, we have been blessed."
A celebration of Jessie's life will be held at a later time. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Jessie to the Daly House Museum, 122 18th Street, Brandon, R7A 5A4 or to the Riverbank Discovery Centre, 545 Conservation Dr. Brandon, R7A 7L8 or https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/brandon-riverbank-inc/
