Jennie Viola Woods, age 98 years, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Savior, at her residence, Fairview Home, on Wednesday, June 2, 2004. Jennie was born March 28, 1906 at Hanlan, Manitoba, (presently called Warren). She was educated in the Warren Consolidated School and received her teacher? training at Normal School, in Winnipeg, from 1923 to 1924. She taught school at East Bay, Bowsman, and Culross, Manitoba. Jennie taught privately for 10 years in Brandon, as well as substitute teaching in the various towns she lived in, including Brandon. Jennie married John Edgar Woods on July 20, 1927, in Grassmere United Church, near Stonewall, Manitoba. She was baptized at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church in 1972, and became a member in good standing in 1974, serving in church work, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School. She led the ladies?Wednesday afternoon Bible study for many years. Jennie also shared her childhood experiences in various elementary schools. She was a member of the UCW and WMS Societies. She volunteered at the Assiniboine Hospital and Brandon Regional Health Centre reading to and visiting patients. Jennie is survived by her son, Harold (Audrey) Woods of Orillia, Ontario; grandchildren, David, Janet (Peter) Graham, great grandchildren, Joshua and Dana. She also leaves step grandchildren, Brenda, Lorraine, Shirley and Cheryl and their families. There are many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including her special friend Joan. She was predeceased by her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Donald Munro; sisters, Hazel Allen, Jessie Munro, Kathleen (William) Roberts, Ellen Cassels, Elizabeth Beggs and Elsie Wylie; and brothers, William Munro, Donald Munro and Chester Munro. A time of visitation for family and friends was held at Memories Chapel on Friday, June 4, 2004. The Funeral Service was held at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, 635 McDiarmid Drive, on Saturday, June 5, 2004. Rev. Robert Drumm officiated. Pallbearers were: James Munro, Ronald Munro, Garth Woods, Donald Woods, Dennis Woods and Ernest Roberts. Interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
