Jennie Elizabeth (Blondie) Dunn passed away peacefully at the Riverdale Hospital, Saturday, May 22, 1999 after a brave and lengthy battle with cancer. Born on January 29, 1923 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Jennie met and later married her husband Bert on June 12, 1943. For the first three years, she and Bert travelled to numerous places during the war until they settled in Rivers in 1945. Together they raised their four children: Judy (Joe) Kubanowski, Ron (Corinne) Dunn, Coleen (Tony) Wall, Greg Dunn (Dayce). Also surviving are special grandchildren; Sherri (James) Potvin, Cheryl (Scott) Carpenter, Teresa Wall, Lisa Dunn and great grandson, Matthew. Jennie will be sadly missed by her brothers and sisters; Annie Rogers, Bill (Astri) Jolliffe, Evan (Leno) Tonin, Albert (Cecelia) Jolliffe as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by both her parents, Richard and Jennie Jolliffe and brothers, Jack and Oliver Jolliffe. Jennie was a member of the Rivers Hospital Guild, Life Member of the Legion Auxilary. Throughout her years, Jennie enjoyed camping, travelling and square dancing. Jennie's hobbies of knitting and baking were enjoyed and will be greatly missed by all of the family. The funeral service was held at the Rivers United Church on Wednesday, May 26, 1999 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Glenna Beeauchamp officiated. Organist was Jean Young, Pianist was Aileen Sclater. Pallbearers were: Ross Robertson, Orval Schwalm, Scott Ross, Tom Sclater, Joe Careme and Clayton Blackwell. Honorary Pallbearers were: Don and Lil Sharman, Mary and Abe Sclater, Sadie Purdy, Ev Beever and Don Mitchell. Interment was in the Rivers cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 42 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, R7A 2B2 or to a charity of choice.
