Jeffrey Carey

May 28, 1980 — December 8, 2025

Jeffrey David Carey was born May 28, 1980 to Laura Mallette and David Carey, at the Brandon General Hospital.

Favourite pastimes as an only child included a sandbox and Tonka Toys for as many hours as his mom would allow, as well as going for trips in the truck with his dad.

He attended Turtle Mountain summer camp every year until he was 14. As he grew, he developed an interest in hockey. He not only played, he developed a passion for the Oilers and remained loyal throughout his life. He attended school at Meadows, Earl Oxford and Crocus Plains – the latter being where culinary arts fostered a love for cooking, a talent Jeff remained efficient at all his life.

Growing up on a farm outside of Brandon Jeff was no stranger to hard work, and he loved to be busy.

His first job was at Bygarski's bee farm, then a gas jockey at Petro Canada, a stint with the carnival, then taxi driving for a few years. However, all those trips with his dad had turned his attention to trucking, so in 2012 he went to Winkler, got his class 1 license, and established his career. Jeff passed with flying colours, becoming adept at backing up tandem trailers called super B's, which was no easy feat.

Around this time, he met the love of his life Tara, and it soon became evident that this was a long term love.

They were happily married on October 18, 2014 and they began to plan life. In 2016, they welcomed a son Chase into their family. Jeff was ever the entrepreneur, always thinking of a new venture. He started a service called "Wheat City DD" which was designed to get you and your vehicle home safely when you were responsible enough to "plan a safe ride home". In 2018, Jeff and Tara welcomed a daughter Kinslee - to complete their family. Jeff was an amazing Dad. He cooked, cleaned, ran errands, and was the "taxi" driver for all kids getting them where they needed to go – while holding down a job at Bess Tank Lines (Trimac).

There was nothing Jeff wouldn't do for Tara and the kids. Always putting them ahead of his own comfort, no matter how he was feeling you would never know – as Jeff never complained.

Jeff enjoyed woodwork, making furniture, plant stands and play structures. He built decks and bird feeders – pretty much anything he was asked he would build. He dabbled in making neon signs which family members still get to enjoy.

There were few times they weren't all together as a family – either going on a holiday, boating on the lake, enjoying their cabin or going to the kids numerous activities. He loved blowing snow and helping people. One of his happiest times was setting up the elaborate Christmas display with his kids. They were so excited when their display made it on the map of Christmas Lights of Brandon in 2023, as well as the front page of the Brandon Sun. Jeff and his family made projects together, memories together, and a wonderful life.

When health issues arose, Jeff did everything he could to ensure he was a healthy candidate for a Kidney Transplant - starting dialysis in 2020. Jeff survived surgeries and procedures that were deemed necessary to achieve a possible life saving transplant. He met every challenge head on taking surgeries in stride, getting better, coming home. So long as he could walk, move around, be at home with his family – his life, Jeff was satisfied. Unfortunately, these "protocols" began to be more of an onslaught to Jeff's body than a benefit, and with each set back the chances of a transplant diminished and eventually disappeared. He fought, withstood and battled without complaint.

On December 4, 2025, Jeff went to the hospital for the final time. All the doctors and nurses in ICU did their very best to get things under control, but sadly Jeff was not well enough to get the upper hand. On December 8, 2025 with family who loved him, by his side, Jeff was released from all pain and uncertainty and secured his wings.

Jeff leaves to mourn his loving wife Tara; Morgan, Emerson, Chase and Kinslee. His mom Laura (Lawrence) Petrowsky; in-laws Lloyd, Marlaine, Trevor, Travis, Tanner (Melissa) Teall; nieces and nephews Lainey, Lexi and Remington Teall; Jeff's aunt Dorothy and Mark (Tyson)
Jeff was predeceased by his father David.

The Service to Honour Jeff's Life will take place at Calvary Temple, 620-34th Street, on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. A private interment will take place at the Brandon Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Jeff may be made to Kidney Foundation of Canada – Manitoba Branch, #209 – 2211McPhillips St. Winnipeg, MB R2V 3M5.
