Obituary

Jean Ellenor Johnston passed away peacefully at the Wawanesa Personal Care Home on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the age of 96.

Jean was born and raised in Nesbitt, MB where she received her education before going on to become a teacher. She taught in numerous small towns including Isabella, MB where she met her future husband Lyall. She and Lyall married in 1957 and then moved to Wawa, ONT where she taught until they settled in Thompson, MB in 1970. She spent many years teaching at R.D. Parker Collegiate in Thompson and then moved to Deerwood Elementary School where she taught until she retired. In 1990 Jean and Lyall moved to Brandon to enjoy their retired life.

Jean always loved to travel and took many holidays travelling around Canada and the United States. While working, Jean's winters were spent curling and summers were spent fishing and enjoying the outdoors at their cottage at Paint Lake. After retirement, winters were spent in Texas, Australia and Victoria and during the summer they were traveling around southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan golfing and "going for lunch".

Jean was a very adventurous and inquisitive person who was always wanting to learn something new. She loved trivia, crossword puzzles and doing sudokus. Her passion for Canadian history was evident in her teaching as well as the trivia competitions at Victoria Landing.

Left to hold her memory dear are her sister-in-law Marypat Johnston; nephew Cal; nieces Kelly, Sally, Nancy, Leanne and Glenda as well as numerous extended relatives and friends.

Jean was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years Lyall Johnston; parents Edith and Stanley Livingston; brothers Alvin (Marg) Livingston and Stanley Livingston; brothers-in-law Burton (Elma) Johnston and Claire Johnston.

A Celebration of Jean's Life will take place at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, Brandon, MB, on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

Friends that desire may make donations in Jean's memory to the Wawanesa Personal Care Home Box 309 Wawanesa, MB R0K 2G0 or to a charity of your choice.
