Obituary

Burnett: Jean Ellen (nee Howell) It is with great sadness that the family announce the death of their beloved Mom, Grandma and friend. Jean fought a courageous battle of cancer. She surrendered Sunday, February 4, 2001 with her family and close friends by her side at home. Jean was born in Cartwright, Manitoba on March 5, 1937. She was the daughter of Frank and Margaret Howell and a big sister to Clinton. Jean attended school in Cartwright, completing grade 11. Jean then went on to become a certified hairdresser. These skills proved to be beneficial as she cut her two grandchildren's hair three weeks ago. Jean met her sweetheart, Howard Burnett, in Souris, Manitoba and was married April 20, 1957. They resided in Souris for a short time before moving to Brandon. Jean raised five children: son, Doug (friend Pat) of Brandon; daughters, Norma (Kevin) Will of Portage la Prairie; Della (Jim) Butler of Souris; Sheila (Aaron) Schell of Gillam; and Rhonda Burnett (friend Laurie) of Brandon. Grandma Jean was very proud of her nine grandchildren and spent many happy times with them. She will be sadly missed, but remembered fondly by: Colby, Kaleigh and Chaz (Norma); Kristin and Dustin (Della); Logan, Kenzie and Morgan (Sheila); and Rylie (Rhonda). Jean was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Margaret (nee Clark) Howell and her husband Howard Burnett. Family and friends will remember Jean for her beautiful smile, her kindness and her ability to enjoy life to the fullest. She was always busy, raising five children and caring for many other children who came to the Burnett Ponderosa. Jean was a hard worker and kept an immaculate home. One of Jean's great joys was gardening and she took great pride in her yard and flowerbeds. Jean enjoyed entertaining and loved to cook. She had a passion for dancing, bingo, cross country skiing, playing cards, crafts, travelling, and visiting with friends. Jean's motto was to work hard, play and to laugh; she had a great sense of humour. All who knew Jean will miss her kind spirit and cheerful presence. Family would like to invite you to complete Mom's journey with a Graveside Service on Sunday, July 08, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jean may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, 350 St. Mary Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 3J2. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330. I'm Free Don't grieve for me, I'm free, I'm following the path God has laid, you see. I took His hand when I heard His Call I turned around and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found the peace on a sunny day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joys. A family shared, a laugh, a kiss, Oh yes, these things, I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I've savored much, Good family, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief. Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts, and peace to thee. God wanted me now; I'm free. ~ Author Unknown
