Jean Catherine Boyd

The family of Jean Catherine Boyd (nee Lindley) are saddened to share the news of her passing that occurred on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

Jean was born in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan on November 12, 1937. Her family moved to Brandon shortly after she was born. In 1957 she married Allan Boyd and relocated to his family farm to begin their married life. Together they raised two children, John and Christie. The family enjoyed camping and snowmobiling and were active in the snowgoers club. Many of the friendships formed while snowmobiling would last for the rest of Jean’s life. Jean later took a job at Canadian Tire when her children were older. Jean enjoyed her time at Canadian Tire and the friendships she made there, retiring in 1990. Jean was predeceased by her husband Allan in 1989, and she moved back to Brandon to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

Jean loved being with her family and celebrating holidays with her delicious cooking, including homemade bread, buns, and pickles. She always enjoyed crafting activities such as crochet and paper tole. She also loved to play online games and made several dear friends this way that she never met in person, but they were very special to her. She took up golfing in her later years and found a deep love for the sport. She taught several of her grandchildren how to play as well and spent many happy summers travelling in her motorhome to different courses and tournaments. She was a member of the Minnedosa golf club with her sister Patricia for many years. Her grandchildren loved to go camping together, and Jean’s confidence in driving and parking her motorhome was unmatched.

In 1997 Jean was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer and given 6 months to live. She endured chemo, a mastectomy, and then agreed to be part of an experimental treatment program with Dr. Lorne Brandes. Ever the defiant one, Jean was the only survivor of the test group she participated in and remained in remission for the rest of her life. Jean loved to travel and explore the world with friends. She visited Las Vegas, Reno, Mexico, Hawaii, the Dominican, and even Australia.

Jean is survived by her son John (Wanda) and her daughter Christie (Gerry) Waldon and grandchildren Jolynn (Ryan), Sasha, Joel (Kayla), Dylan, Trevor, Nicole (Derek), and Kathryn (Jordan), great grandchildren Abby, Gracie, Silas, Emma, Lincoln, and baby Barnes due in December. She was predeceased by her siblings, grandson-in-law Derek, and great grandson Clayton.

Jean was a truly unique person who left an impression on all who knew her. She never shied away from sharing her feelings or opinions, even when you didn’t ask! While we are heartbroken at the loss of our mother and grandmother, we are buoyed by the many happy memories and funny stories and sayings that will continue to live on within our family.

The Celebration of Jean’s Life will occur at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Monday, June 29, 2026 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm with a time of reflection at 1:30 pm. A family interment will take place at the Brandon Cemetery.
