ANTICURA

ANTICURA: The death of Jean Anticura of Brandon occurred on August 13, 2000 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Jean was born October 12, 1925 in Bradford, Manchester, England. Her family moved several times throughout Manchester in her early years. Jean's father died when she was quite young. Her older sisters played a big part during these years for Jean was the "baby" of the family. At an early age Jean went to work to support the war effort. In 1945 she was married to Canadian Airman Ronald Nicholson. A unique and tragic turn of events made Jean a widow on the second day of her honeymoon; but from that brief marriage came her first son Ron. Jean came to Canada twice when Ron was quite young and on the second visit decided to make Canada her new home. She moved to Sidney and eventually met Walter Anticura. Jean and Walter were married in 1962 and lived on the farm at Firdale until Walter's death in 1992. During their years in Firdale, they took in numerous foster children. Jean moved to Brandon in 1992 and enjoyed dearly her new community, her neighbors at the "Tower" and her church family at St. Mary's Anglican Church. She enjoyed handcrafts such as needlepoint, knitting, and rug hooking. She also discovered she had some talent for painting. Jean took great pleasure travelling throughout Canada and Great Britain, where she visited family and friends. She was a woman of strong faith and prayer. She belonged to and was actively involved with Sidney UCW, C.G.I.T., Sidney Sunday School, Girl Guides, Seniors for Seniors, church choirs, St. Mary's ACW, Bible study groups and the prayer chain. Jean will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her sons: Ron Nicholson, Ward (Linda) Anticura and their son Kevin, and Dale (Coral) and their children Samantha and Jonathan; sisters Edith and Mary of England; as well as many nieces and nephews in Great Britain. The ceremony to celebrate Jean's life was held at Memories Chapel, Brandon, on Wednesday, August 16, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Garry MacDowall of St. Mary's Anglican Church officiated. Interment followed in the Carberry Plains Cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Jean to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 203 - 42 McTavish Ave. E., Brandon, MB R7A 2B2. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330. Memorials
