JASZCZCA: The death of Jan Jaszcza of Brandon occurred Sunday, September 6, 2009. The Ceremony of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Memories Chapel. Jan Jaszcza was born in Cacow, Poland on August 9, 1917. In 1939 Jan joined the military as a soldier. He was taken as a prisoner of war by the Russians and was imprisoned for two years. Jan was released from prison in 1942. He then joined the 2nd Polish Corps as a military soldier to the Middle East, and served alongside their allies, the British Army. Jan was wounded in Italy in 1944 and was given a discharge from the military in November of 1946. Jan came to Canada as a polish veteran under contract with the Government of Canada in the Department of Agriculture. He was employed at a research station from 1949 through to 1982. Jan was awarded a special award for improving efficiency to the public service by the Government of Canada. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Maria and Andizej Jaszcza; and his loving wife, Anna, in 2001. He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Raymond and his wife, Barb and grandson, Brandon of Victoria, British Columbia; daughter, Diane and granddaughters, Rebecca and Bridgette of Calgary, Alberta.
