James Don Norris of Rivers, passed away at the Riverdale Health Centre, Rivers on Tuesday, November 26, 2002. Don was born January 27, 1930 at Rapid City, Manitoba to Charlie and Marion Norris. He spent his early years on the family farm in the St. George's district and received his education at Mount Vernon School. Don worked for a number of farmers in the district, before moving to Winnipeg, where he worked at a number of occupations from driving taxi, to moving buildings, and long-haul trucking. Throughout his life, Don enjoyed many out-door activities such as: camping, fishing, and traveling. He was a member of the Manitoba Wildlife Federation, Rivers branch. Don will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his love of children and his sense of fun. Don was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie and Marion Norris; infant brother, Billy; sister, Mabel Shelvey; and two brothers-in-law, Les Shelvey and Fred Shelvey. He is survived by his loving and devoted companion, Arleigh White of Rivers; son, Jim (Evelyn) of Saskatoon; and daughters, Verna (Gary) Anderson of Sooke, BC; Susan (Mark) Broerken of Sardis, BC. Don is also survived by; his grandchildren, Shawna, Richard, Matthew, Becky, Jeff, Lisa, Laura and one great granddaughter, Tia. His sister, Kay Shelvey of Brandon and many nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be held at St. James Anglican Church, Rivers on Monday, December 2, 2002 at 2:00 pm. The Rev. Canon Paul Curtis will officiate. Interment will follow in the St. George's Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
