On Tuesday, April 19, 2016, James Henry "Jim" McAuley, age 88 years, entered into eternal peace at the Dinsdale Personal Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba. Jim was born on November 4, 1927 in Brandon to Henry and Elizabeth McAuley. In his childhood, he lived in Carnegie, Manitoba. He attended Powerville School until he moved to Brandon to complete his high school. After graduation he continued his education at Canadian Bible College in Regina, Saskatchewan where he met his wife, Mildred Mix. Following Bible College, Jim and Mildred were married in 1949 and moved to Brandon where they resided for the rest of their lives. While in Brandon, Jim worked at various jobs including bookkeeper at Modern Dairies, office worker at Brandon Paint and Glass, and finally teacher at Earl Oxford School until he was forced to take an early retirement due to health concerns. In 1999, Jim was widowed when his wife Mildred passed away. In 2001, he married Sarah Dyck who has been a constant source of encouragement and support to him, especially in his later years as his health declined. Jim was one of the earliest members of the Alliance Church in Brandon, where he attended since the age of 16. Over the years, he served in various positions in the church. He was also involved in other ministries including work with the Gideons and as a volunteer with the Mailbox ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship. A favorite hobby of Jim's was amateur radio. He loved to communicate with many people around the world in the days before the Internet made this type of communication easy and his call sign of VE4ID was recognized by many other ham operators with whom he developed a friendship, both locally and around the globe. Jim also was licensed to train and test other amateur radio enthusiasts as they pursued this hobby. Another interest for Jim was spending time at the lake with family and friends. His favorite spot to camp was Rivers where he enjoyed boating and waterskiing. He was even able to waterski as a great-grandfather. Jim is survived by his wife Sarah; sons Bryan (Esther) from Killarney and Barry (Donna) from Calgary; daughters-in-law Dorothy McAuley and Dianne McAuley from Brandon and their families. He also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren as well as many nephews, nieces and extended family members. He was predeceased by his father Henry; mother Elizabeth; wife Mildred; sons Wayne and Ron; sister Mary Hay, and several other in-laws and extended family. A Celebration of Jim's Life took place at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church on Tuesday, April 26, 2016. Pastor Darryl McAuley officiated. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Jim may be made to Turtle Mountain Bible Camp, Box 1198, Boissevain, MB R0K 0E0 or a charity of your choice.
God has you in His keeping. We have you in our hearts.
