It is with shock, disbelief and immeasurable sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Jamie Hertzog, who died at home in Brandon, Manitoba, of a cardiac arrest on July 4, 2025, at the age of 53.

Jamie was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on October 26, 1971, and raised in the rural community of Goulais River, where his love of all things outdoors began. Jamie enjoyed camping, swimming, exploring and later, dirt-biking, quadding and riding snow mobiles.

As a young man, Jamie moved to Brandon where he worked for several auto body shops before founding his own business, Assiniboine Glass and Collision. He was proud of the work he did which was always impeccable, and the business he built, and even through recent challenges – including the loss of the shop – Jamie remained resilient and grounded in the things that mattered most.

Jamie's proudest achievement in recent years was his sobriety – celebrating 3 years sober – a testament to his strength, dedication and perseverance.

Above all, was the light of his life his beloved daughter, Ava, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride and who was his utmost priority in everything he did and accomplished. Having a daughter made Jamie want to be a better man.

Jamie is survived by his mother Lorraine Fischer and was predeceased by his father Jimmy Hertzog and his special granny, Lily. He leaves behind his daughter Ava, who he placed above all else, his loving partner of 3 ½ years, Kendell Mazer, along with her children Liam and Isla, for whom he cared deeply. Jamie leaves behind his former wife Kerry, who followed him to Brandon as barely young adults, and with whom he continued a close co-parenting relationship and enduring friendship.

He is also survived by his sisters, Cindy Withers (Michael), Rachael Dumas (Jerry), stepsiblings Dwayne Trudeau and Krista Peters, and stepmother Louise. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Matthew and Daniel Findlay, Daniel, Joshua and Abby Dumas, and Alex White and Amanda Campbell.

It would be a disservice to neglect to mention Jamie's love for his animals. He shared his life and heart with many cherished pets – Rowdy, Kosmo and Pouncer, who have passed, and River, Ruby and Buster who remain and miss him greatly.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, July 25, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Riverview Curling Club, 420 Maryland Ave. Brandon, MB. All who knew Jamie are welcome to attend and share memories of a man who was honest, generous, hardworking and full of love for those closest to him.

Jamie will be remembered for his kind heart, generosity of spirit, sense of humor and enduring love for his friends and family. Jamie had many friends and family in Ontario and his friends in Brandon, truly became his family – his door was always open, as was his heart, his advice spot-on and his sense of humor second to none. His loss leaves a void that cannot be described.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17th Street East, Brandon MB R7A 7M6, or the charity of your choice.

"Well (shrugs shoulders) …you can't pick your friends". – Jamie Hertzog
