Obituary

EASTCOTT: James Clarke "Jim" Eastcott passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on October 8, 2012, with his family by his side. Jim was born October 16, 1949, the only child of Clifford and Emma Eastcott and spent most of his life on 21st Street. Jim received his education in Brandon at Fleming School, Earl Oxford and Vincent Massey. In 1971, he received his diploma in printing from the Brandon Collegiate Institute, which molded his career choices. He spent numerous years at the Brandon Sun with a short stint at the Calgary Herald before returning to the Brandon Sun. He moved on to Webber Printing, where he learned many life lessons and true friendships. Jim ventured out on his own in 1990 to become the proprietor/operator of Regent Custom Cresting until his health forced him to quit, but mentally and emotionally Regent stayed with him till his passing. Jim left his mark on his employees, customers and suppliers alike and never had a day he didn't want to go to the shop. He was very proud of Kevin and Darryl's ability to continue with the business when he couldn't be there, although he reminded all of us who trained them. For many years, Jim was an avid volunteer for Ducks Unlimited. He worked tirelessly for the Sporting Clays Committee each year, having to depend on his quad for transportation before he'd give up. He received his 20 year plaque and duck for service a couple of years before his illness forced him to quit. Jim also belonged to the Brandon Gun Club, starting with his Dad at a very young age, continuing the tradition with his son Rob. He was also a member of the UCT of Brandon. Jim was blessed to be a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for the past 25 years which opened many of life's doors. He used his spiritual strengths and humble ways to touch many lives along the way. This really became evident in the past few years while he sometimes questioned what God's purpose was for him. Jim and Betty had countless good times together while riding his motorbike across Canada and the United States, spending time together at the cabin at Oak Lake, building, boating, visiting, and just relaxing and travelling to numerous places. He loved the fall and winters when he could start with birds in the fall, then move to bow, black powder and rifle for the big game, both local and northern. Jim is survived by his wife, Betty and children; Rob (Kelly), Kevin (Erin), Darryl (Melany), Sharon (Jason). Grandchildren: Tiara, Brennen, Matthew, Jadyne, Sage, Tyran, Seth, Trae, Jaysa, Ashtyn and Hailey. He was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Emma (Randall) Eastcott, precious infant grandson, Jayton, very special little nephew Matthew and two nieces, Shawna and Marlene. The Ceremony to Celebrate Jim's life was held at the Bethel Christian Assembly, 440 Richmond Avenue on Monday, October 15, 2012. Pastor Michael Sitko officiated. Pallbearers were: Matthew Elton, Scott McDonald, Kent Minshull, Dale Fraser, Richard Gervais, Garry "Smiley" Kelbert, Mike Mosiuk Jr. and Steven Webber. Interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Jim to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Brandon Chapter, Unit 5B, 457 9th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 1K2 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, #3, 824 18th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 5B7.
