CHRISP: The death of James "Jim" Chrisp occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, September 8, 2008. A time of visitation will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Thursday, September 11, 2008 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm with the Ceremony following at 2:30 pm. CHRISP: James B. Chrisp passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, September 8, 2008. James was born June 10, 1918 in Pipestone, Manitoba. He was the second child of William and Hannah Chrisp. In 1920, the Chrisp family moved to Sinclair to farm. There, Jim received his education and worked on the farm until the fall of 1941. Jim then moved to Virden where he worked at the airport until June 1942. On May 22nd, 1942, his father passed away after suffering a stroke in 1936. After that low point in his life, he turned to a high point by marrying Jean Henderson of Pipestone on June 27, 1942. Jim then joined the Air Force and served his time stationed in Brandon, until his discharge in 1946. Jim's next years was spent in Pipestone where he worked for Skelding and Davis Garage until the garage was sold in 1948. His next move was to Brandon where he spent the next twenty-three years working for Western Motors until it closed in 1971. During his time at Western Motors his mother Hannah passed away on October 15, 1966. In December of 1971, Jim joined MPIC as an estimator and remained there until his retirement in 1987. Jim's wife Jean became ill in 1997 and passed away on November 23, 1997. It was the same year they celebrated their 55th Anniversary. Jim was a sixty-year member of the Masonic Lodge but his true love was U.C.T. He joined U.C.T. in December of 1962 and immediately became involved. He was one of the original group that started Travo that began in 1963 and he was in attendance in May 2008 to help celebrate forty-five years of Travo. Jim was Secretary/Treasurer of the Travellers Day Parade for twenty-seven years. He was also the Grand Secretary for Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta for twenty-five years. He served in many other capacities and received many honors and awards. To honor Jim for his dedication, hard work and leadership Brandon Council #448 changed their name to the James B. Chrisp Council #448 in 2007. It was an honor justly deserved. Jim was predeceased by his father William; mother Hannah-Ellen; sister Elizabeth Birnie of Victoria; brother Jack from Flin Flon; sister Margaret Hart of Ottawa, and his wife Jean. Jim leaves to mourn his special cousin and friend Bonnie, and her family, nieces, nephews and many good friends in Brandon and Pipestone. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Memories Chapel, on Thursday, September 11, 2008. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
