BROWN: James Alexander (Jim) Brown passed away at the Assiniboine Centre, Sunday, February 11, 2007. Jim was born in Brandon on May 26, 1919, third son of Robert and Jean Brown of Griswold, Manitoba. He attended Hillsdale, a one-room school south of Griswold, until moving with the family to the Cornwallis Municipality in 1929. There he attended Cornwallis school. Jim farmed with his Dad and brothers until he and his son Jim formed a partnership. He farmed until 1998 when ill health forced his retirement. Jim loved his family, farming and community. He was an avid hunter and played hockey in his younger years. He also water-skied, proving to his grandchildren at the age of 72, he could still do it. Jim married Estella Williamson on November 3, 1945. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in 2006. They became active in the Roseland Community where they resided. Jim served as President of the Roseland Curling Club from 1964 - 1966 and was awarded with Honorary Life membership for 30 years active support in 1978. He was on the Community Centre Board for many years and was awarded "The Good Guy Award" in 1974 by the Provincial Exhibition for a non-director who did the most to promote the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair. He showed Black Angus cattle as a youth in the boys and girls class and later years with pens of five with his son. He was awarded Commercial Breeder of the year by the Manitoba Angus Association in 1974. He is survived by his loving wife, Estella; daughter Jean Laing; granddaughter Kristin (Brian Breemersch); great granddaughters Britteny, Katrina and Brooke; grandson Robert Laing (Michelle); son Jim Brown Jr. (Donna Lee); grandson Jason Brown and granddaughter Jamie Brown. A brother Allan Brown (Florence); niece Linda Creighton (Riley, Tyler and Brett); nephew Bob Brown (Sandy) and Ali; sisters-in-law Alice Drysdale, Lorna and Audrey Williamson; brothers-in-law Clarence and Arthur (Marie) Williamson, Bill Addison, and Ken Laing survive. Numerous other nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his father Robert Brown and mother Jean Brown (Murray); an infant brother Robert and older brother Marshall; brothers-in-law John, Bill, Norman and Jim Williamson, Hugh Ferguson and Cam Drysdale; sisters-in-law Mary and Gladys Williamson, Laura Addison and Evelyn Ferguson. A Service of Thanksgiving to Celebrate Jim's life took place at Central United Church on February 15, 2007. A private family interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Rob Laing, Jason Brown, Murray Hutton, Bob Brown, Brian Breemersch, and Ralph Lowes
