Obituary

Jackie Louise Stevens (nee Wery), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunty, mother-in-law and friend, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, in Brandon, Manitoba, surrounded by her loving girls and husband.

She was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba – Fort Garry on October 13, 1950.

Her love story with Fred Stevens began at what is now known as Stephenfield Provincial Park during a wiener roast shared with friends. Their bond deepened, leading to a beautiful union on September 12, 1970. Together, they embarked on a journey that took Jackie to Carman in 1972, where she planted her roots and raised their family.

Jackie dedicated her skills and dedication to the banking sector, before starting her family, with positions at TD Bank in Winnipeg for 4 years and the Bank of Commerce in Carman for 2 years.

Jackie served her community as the Assistant CAO for the town of Carman for 31 years, while owning and operating the Stuff N' Such Dollar Store in Carman for 10 years. Jackie was a social butterfly, effortlessly drawing people in with her kindness, support, and infectious laughter. Whether at a lively gathering, a cherished family dinner, or on the dance floor, Jackie's presence illuminated the room, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Jackie's love for life was evident in her passions, from her appreciation of music – particularly oldies, rock n' roll, and hymns – to her joy in singing, especially with her beloved grandchildren. She cherished family gatherings, where she could share in laughter, love, and cherished memories. Her adventurous spirit led her to explore the world, always embracing each journey as an opportunity for laughter and joy.

Jackie leaves behind a legacy of love that will endure through the generations. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her loving husband, Fred Stevens; daughters Brenda Stevens (Mark), Cori Behrman (Darcy) and Tara Rempel (Kris); grandchildren Brie, Alex, Ryan, Lindsay, Hailey, Holly and Lee; sister Carla Solonynka (Meron); brothers Joseph Wery (Susan), Richard Wery (Laura) and David Wery (Kim); and brother-in-law Fritz Thede.

Jackie was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Jikke (nee Bruinsma) Wery; sister Lorraine Spencer (Wery) and Lou Spencer, and sister Nettie Thede (Wery).

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, Carman, Manitoba.

The family would like to thank the Home Care attendant, Brandon City Police - Cst. Frame and his BPS partner, Paramedics, and Memories Chapel for their care, and compassion they showed our family during this difficult time.

In keeping with Jackie's love for children, donations in her memory may be made to Westman Dreams For Kids, 404 18th Street North, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 7P3.
